Miqat Points for Umrah: A Simple Guide

A miqat is the boundary where a pilgrim going for Umrah or Hajj must be in ihram. Which miqat you use depends on the direction you come from. People already inside Makkah go to the nearest point outside the Haram.

There are five miqats: Dhul Hulaifah (Abyar Ali, near Madinah), Al-Juhfah (near Rabigh), Qarn al-Manazil (As-Sayl al-Kabir / Wadi Mahram, near Taif), Yalamlam (south of Makkah) and Dhat Irq (northeast). If you are already in Makkah, you go outside the Haram, usually to Masjid Aisha (from SAR 120 return) or Al-Ji’ranah (from SAR 140 return).

The five miqats

  • Dhul Hulaifah (Abyar Ali): for people coming from Madinah. Our Madinah to Makkah taxi stops here.
  • Al-Juhfah: for people coming from the northwest, such as Egypt and Syria by land. Pilgrims often use Rabigh.
  • Qarn al-Manazil: for people coming from Taif and the east (Najd). See the Taif guide.
  • Yalamlam: for people coming from Yemen and the south. Many flights from South Asia pass it.
  • Dhat Irq: for people coming from Iraq and the northeast.

Flying in for Umrah

If you fly to Jeddah and go straight to Makkah, be in ihram before the plane passes the miqat. Put it on at home or at the airport, and make the intention when the crew announces the miqat. See Jeddah Airport guide and Ihram guide.

Already in Makkah? Masjid Aisha or Ji’ranah

A trip to Yalamlam or Al-Juhfah is priced on request: ask on WhatsApp. For more detail read Miqat for Umrah.
