Haramain Train Stations Guide for Pilgrims

The Haramain High Speed Railway links Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah. It is fast, but the stations are not next to the holy mosques. This guide explains each station and how to reach your hotel.

The Haramain train has five stations: Makkah (Rusaifah), Jeddah Al-Sulaymaniyah, Jeddah King Abdulaziz Airport (Terminal 1), King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) and Madinah. None is beside the Haram, so you need a taxi or bus to your hotel. A Zikr Cabs station transfer costs from SAR 100 (Sedan).

The five stations

  • Makkah station (Rusaifah): a few kilometres from Masjid al-Haram. Traffic near the Haram can make the last part slow.
  • Jeddah Al-Sulaymaniyah: the city station for Jeddah.
  • Jeddah Airport station: connected to Terminal 1 of King Abdulaziz Airport.
  • KAEC (King Abdullah Economic City): near Rabigh, on the coast.
  • Madinah station: outside the central area; allow about 20 to 30 minutes to a Markaziyah hotel.

Tips for train travellers

  • Book train tickets early in Ramadan and school holidays.
  • Luggage space on the train is limited. Big families with many bags often find a private car easier. Compare in Taxi vs train.
  • Send us your train number and arrival time so the driver waits at the exit.
  • In ihram? The Makkah station is after the miqat, so be in ihram before you board if you are going for Umrah.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Makkah train station near the Haram?

No. It is in Rusaifah, a few kilometres away. You need a taxi or bus to your hotel.

How much is a taxi from Makkah or Madinah station to my hotel?

From SAR 100 per car (Sedan) with Zikr Cabs.

Is the train or a taxi better from Makkah to Madinah?

The train is faster on the line itself. A taxi goes door to door with all your luggage and no station transfers, which many families and elderly pilgrims prefer.

The King Abdulaziz International Airport station, connected to Terminal 1.
