Umrah Taxi for Elderly Pilgrims and Wheelchair Users

Many of us dream of taking our parents or grandparents for Umrah. It is one of the most beautiful gifts a child can give. But long airport queues, crowded buses and hot streets can be very hard for an older body. A calm, private ride between the airport, the hotel and the holy sites can make the whole journey gentler.

This page explains how a private Zikr Cabs taxi can help elderly pilgrims and people who use a wheelchair or walker, what to tell us when you book, and practical tips for each part of the trip. Every person’s needs are different, so the most important step is simple: tell us about your needs when you book, and we will tell you honestly what we can arrange.

Why a private taxi helps older pilgrims

Shared buses and public transport work well for many travellers, but they often mean waiting in the heat, carrying bags up steps and sitting for a long time without a break. A private car changes that:

  • Door to door: pickup at the airport arrival area or the hotel entrance, and drop-off as close as the roads allow.
  • Your timing: leave when your parents are rested, not when a bus is full.
  • Stops when needed: for prayer, the washroom, medicine or simply to stretch the legs on long routes like Makkah to Madinah.
  • Space for bags and aids: room for a folding wheelchair, walker or extra cushion, depending on the vehicle you choose.
  • One fixed price per vehicle: the whole family rides together for one fare, agreed before the trip.

What to tell us when you book

Please share these details on WhatsApp so we can suggest the right vehicle and plan the pickup:

  • How many passengers, and how many need extra help getting in and out.
  • Whether you bring a wheelchair, and whether it folds. Please share its folded size if you know it.
  • Whether the person can step up into a higher vehicle such as a van or GMC, or would find a sedan easier.
  • How many suitcases you have.
  • Any medical needs, such as regular stops or keeping the car cool.
  • Your flight number and terminal, or your exact hotel name.

We do not want to promise something we cannot deliver. If you need a specially adapted vehicle with a ramp or lift, ask us when booking and we will tell you clearly whether it can be arranged for your date.

Choosing the right vehicle

Different cars suit different needs. As a general guide:

  • Sedan (Camry / Sonata): low seats are easier for many older people to get into. Boot space fits a folded wheelchair plus a few bags. Good for 1 to 3 passengers.
  • Ford Taurus: a larger sedan with more room in the back seat and a big boot.
  • Hyundai H1 / Staria: a family van with sliding doors and more space for bags and mobility aids, though the step is higher.
  • GMC Yukon: spacious and comfortable for long trips, but the step up is high; some elderly people find it difficult.
  • Toyota Hiace: for larger family groups travelling with an elderly member.

If you are unsure, tell us about your parent’s mobility and we will suggest an option. You can see all vehicle prices on our routes and prices page.

Airport arrival: a calm start

Long flights are tiring, especially for older travellers. A few things make arrival easier:

  • Request airport wheelchair assistance from your airline when you book your flight. Airline staff can help through immigration and baggage.
  • Share your flight number with us so the driver can follow delays.
  • Keep medicines, Ihram clothes and documents in hand luggage.
  • Plan a rest at the hotel before Umrah. Our Jeddah Airport to Makkah taxi and Madinah Airport taxi take you straight to your hotel.

Umrah at the Haram with limited mobility

Masjid al-Haram offers services for older and disabled pilgrims, including wheelchairs and, at certain times, electric carts for Tawaf and Sa’i on the upper floors. Availability and locations change, so ask staff at the gates or check official guidance from the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques.

Many scholars allow those who cannot walk to perform Tawaf and Sa’i in a wheelchair, and allow a person to be pushed by a family member. For questions about your own situation, such as whether someone can perform Umrah on behalf of a very ill parent, please ask a qualified scholar.

Book your Umrah permit in the Nusuk app for a quieter time, such as late night, and plan your ride so you are not rushing.

Long journeys: Makkah to Madinah

The road between the two Holy Cities takes around 4.5 to 5.5 hours. For older travellers, we suggest leaving after Fajr or in the evening, taking a break about every two hours, and keeping water and light snacks in the car. If you travel from Madinah to Makkah for Umrah, the driver can stop at the Dhul Hulaifah miqat so you can put on Ihram in a proper washroom. See our Makkah to Madinah taxi and Madinah to Makkah taxi, and our taxi vs train guide.

Gentle ziyarat for older pilgrims

Elderly parents often want to see the historical places too. Many sites can be seen from the car or with only a few steps: the plain of Arafat, Jabal al-Nour from below, the Uhud martyrs’ cemetery and Masjid Quba. Keep tours short, go early in the morning and choose fewer stops. See our Makkah Ziyarat taxi and Madinah Ziyarat taxi, and the guides to Makkah ziyarat places and Masjid Quba.

Health tips for the journey

  • Drink water often, even if not thirsty. Makkah and Madinah can be very hot.
  • Carry a list of medicines and a doctor’s note.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and use an umbrella in the sun.
  • Rest between prayers instead of staying in the Haram for many hours at once.
  • Keep the hotel address and your phone number in your parent’s pocket in case you get separated.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have wheelchair-accessible vehicles with ramps?

Please ask us when booking. Tell us about the wheelchair and the passenger’s needs, and we will tell you honestly what we can arrange for your date.

Can I bring a folding wheelchair in the taxi?

Folding wheelchairs usually fit in the boot of a sedan or van. Share the folded size and number of suitcases when booking so we can suggest the right vehicle.

Which car is easiest for elderly passengers?

Many older people find a sedan easiest because the seat is low. Vans and GMCs have more space but a higher step. Tell us about your parent’s mobility and we will suggest an option.

Can the driver stop during long trips?

Yes. On long routes like Makkah to Madinah you can ask for stops for prayer, the washroom or rest.

Can the driver help with luggage?

Please mention your luggage and any help you need when booking.

How do I book?

Send us a WhatsApp message at +966 59 590 1564 with your route, date, passengers and any special needs.
